For the first time, I actually like something that I made for a school project. I enjoyed the making of this song because I not only followed instructions but I made this into something real. While making this song, I thought about the style of rap beats that Drake would rap on and that’s how I came out with the plucks. If I were to really send this beat to Drake, I would take out some of the things that I made that were not by choice like audio, guitar and I would change the bass.

Modern trap and rap usually follow the same patterns and that’s what I wanted to achieve with this beat. Usually trap and rap melodies are just looped over and over until it gets to a hook and it’s interesting because that isn’t a bad thing. Regarding tempo, I chose 96 because I wanted something a little slow but it had to sound a bit fast at the same time and 96 ppm did that for me. Most rap music is around the 80’s, 90’s or 130 to 150 ppm depending on the sub genre. The rhythm tracks were all chosen to do a job that required them to let the beat ride more because without it it would sound weak and empty while the bass is minimal and weak but it’s just enough.

After choosing my notes for the plucks I realized that I was in the key of D Flat Minor. After seeing I was in the key of D Flat Minor I chose the pads very easily. The chords I used were F flat major, A flat minor, C flat major and D flat minor with two inversions. Choosing the pad sound was pretty difficult, but I knew that Alchemy could do the job to have a creepy sound to play in the background and I realized that was the only thing I was missing. For the sample track I used a kit that I made with sounds influenced by Drake. I spread them out on the keyboard in the plug and put the drums in the places I wanted them to be to finish the song.

It was difficult trying to figure out where to the dynamic and time processing until I realized what I wanted to do. The plucks sounded like they needed more to them so I added a somewhat strong delay to them. Overall this was a fun track to produce and I can’t wait to make the next one.
